Was hoping to get what everyone is planting that is trying the “regenerative-ag/natures image” in the thread I started, but it didn’t get any action. So I’ll post my stuff here to see if anyone is doing the same mix, or close to it. All seeds are coming from Green Cover. My local guy couldn’t get the specific varieties the consultant wanted/suggested unless he used Green Cover.
*if someone wants the specific varieties I’ll post them*
Always start getting antsy this time of year. Deer are topping out and we are seriously getting ready for the hunting season. There isn’t much left to do for migratory bird habitat, or turkey habitat. The dice have been rolled.
Let’s get it.

What is your goal? I saw where you were wanting to make a “trial/test”. Make sure your soil in both plots/constituents are the same or at least both are relatively in the same condition (ph,drainage, sun, deer activity) if they are different your outcomes could be misleading.
I’m giving 50 acres to a “regenerative ag” trial, and I am going to give it 3-5 years before I go full blast (120-150 acres) that is fall and summer plots with some not dedicated to deer. If we test different options, we have to make sure they are on equal or darn near equal playing fields.
Get some exclusion cages so you can monitor activity while not personally watching the food plot. They will tell you more than anything else.

Gamberi's and/or Bluff(Guedons).
Acidic soil will be wasting money planting these aggressive mixes. Spend your money on lime and plant cereal grains this year.

I found this interesting. This guy compares all the throw and grow type seeds. It’s a 4 part series.

quote:I would say my overall goal this year is to get a food plot down that will work to attract deer while helping me improve overall soil quality for future planting purposes.
What is your goal?
As this is year one for both plots, I was looking into a mix for forage oats for easier growth, winter peas for attraction and added nitrogen, and tillage radish for nitrogen and improve soil breakage.
I was considering adding red clover as well to give me a spring plant, as well as purple top turnips(mostly because I think they look cool)
Any advice would be welcomed. I’m very eager to learn

I like the buck busters mix, we use in where we hunt at in SW MS and it does good. The co-op in Kentwood, LA has it and they might be able to mix a special blend for you.
The BuckBusters premium has been my favorite so far and I buy it at Kentwood Co-Op too. They do have their own specialty blends there too. I used one last year in addition to the BB, but we planted too early during the drought.
