Do it a number of different ways. Sometimes I'll field dress em, sometimes not. Killed some does in Tx last week and never did gut em. Hung them and cleaned them with the guts in them. I know people that pick their deer up and take them to the processor with out ever putting a knife to them. I have no problem with them doing it, but it's just not me. Been on trips where the guides did all the cleaning and I just feel very uncomfortable with it.

I'll do everything but the grinding and sausage making, because I don't have the equiptment
And yea I would just feel weird if I killed a deer and didn't do any of the cleaning after. It's part of the whole experience I guess IMO

I've deboned a few with the guts in them as well at the place I hunt that has no electricity or running water. Works ou pretty nicely. We're lucky enough to have a walk in cooler though, which is the most awesome thing on the whole earth.

I have never had to field dress a deer. Throw that bitch on the 4 wheeler and bring it to the skinning shed.

Question for those that field dress deer. Do you just keep rags or a bunch of napkins and a water bottle or something in your bag for after you gut them to clean off some after?

Well that's obviously the ideal way to do it
We have to drag a lot of ours out from the back of the swamp and it can sometimes be over a mile. Loosing that extra weight is great. It's also nice to not have guts to deal with at the camp.

There's no point. Long drag ahead. Dip my hands in the swamp, wipe em off on a tree, latch on, and get to dragging

Yea I guess its no different than when I drag a bloody deer to the 4 wheeler

You end up with it all over your whole self anyway. If you don't hunt in balls deep water, cold water out of a bottle and a piece of an old tshirt would do fine.

Yes. Yes they are!

That's what we did for years, but in certain situations it's nice not to have to deal with guts when you get where you are going.

You would be surprised by how many "hunters" don't have a clue how to clean their deer, much less process them. I take care of mine from the time they hit the ground until they hit the freezer.

If you hunt in the swamp and have a long drag, you should seriously consider skinning/ gutting/ dressing them on theground before you leave the woods.
You can easily open the skin and take the meat with the deer lying on the ground, then put the meat in a backpack for the transport out of the woods. Odds are that you are meat hunting anyway, so this method can save much hassle on your end.
I have done this many a times over the years.

Pops always told us that the work starts when you pull the trigger and ends when you wipe your arse
He always let us kill and keep what we wanted, but we had to deal with it.
I'm glad he did that. I quarter my deer up after a few days in the cooler, bring it in the camp, and cut/wrap it all on the bar while consuming beers and bullshittin.

A walk-in cooler sounds like the tits

I grew up processing every inch myself. I now usually skin, cut out straps and tenderloins and farm it out.
But I gutted every deer I ever killed in the woods, except as a guest in some clubs, sure feels awkward gutting them while hanging. I still want to pull the guts out while on the ground.

Been on trips with people that only want to pull the trigger. They aren't even interested in keeping the meat. As a matter of fact, I've seen people cape bucks and throw the whole damn thing away. F'n sickening.

The exception I when somebody kills a buck on a dog hit at our place. They have to drink beer and tell the story over and over while somebody else deals with it. The guy who killed it has to twist the head off at the end an go dump the gut truck though.
Boats: walk in cooler is probably the best thing we ever got other than electricity.
Era: I misread your post the first time. That's disgusting. Shouldn't be allowed to hunt IMO.

There were things said. A defense was presented. More things were said. Silence followed.
fricking disgusting and anyone that pulls that shite deserves a swift arse kicking.

We've kicked people out of our club for allowing deer to spoil in the cooler. Nobody we hunt with stands for that shite. Of course, things change when you leave your home turf.
