I'm going shoot again tomorrow evening. It's possible that hat and/or headbusta may come. Hopefully I group a little better this time and don't shoot any arrows through rotted out bails of hay again.

Hay bails seem like they would be great backstops, but it never works out that way. Got the groups tight enough to hunt?

Some days yea, other days no. I'm getting better, but I still feel like I might need to have a target at the camp and send a couple arrows downrange before I head out to hunt. My first arrow is almost never on

Damn man the first one is the most important one. Shooting a 3-D target out of a climbing stand with no idea of how far it is is the true test.

I plan on walking out distances in a couple directions around the stand I plan to hunt and trying to point on a few reference objects so I can have some point to gauge distance from in the stand. I do need to shoot out of the climber before the season though, just to practice.

ETA and I need to pick up broadheads soon. I know what I want I just need to spend money.

Good idea. I sometimes put a piece of TP on a limb to mark certain distances (if I brought enough to spare )

My brother shot those last year. Sweet arse rigs.

He's never shot the same broadhead 2 years in a row. His is set up so well that it shoots anything like field points, so he just grabs whatever looks cool that year and uses it.

You might want to do that before you go out hunting. Just get a buddy to get the arrows out of the target and hand them back up

Key word there. Seems like common sense, but some people seem inclined to throw arrows at you while you're helpless.
