Can anyone recommend a good charter boat to take out of Destin? This will be in the summer and we are interested in inshore trolling type of fishing. Thanks!

I am curious about this as well. I want to take my nephew and others on an inshore redfish charter in Destin this summer, so i was looking for a good guide recommendation. What is the limit on reds in FL? All charters website pics dont look like they catch a whole lot.

I would not recommend doing inshore charter, limits are so low on redfish & trout that if you happen to get on a good bite it will be over in less than a hour.

Off-shore can highly recommend the boat BackLash and Capt Jason Mikel. This guy is one with the fish.

These guys will put you on the fish! A friend and I brought our 8 year old sons last year on a 4 hr. trip. Everyone caught their limit on Red Snapper. They won the 2011 Destin Rodeo Captain of the year.

One thing to remember is the amount of meat that you will have, be prepared.
Example from 2010 on the Backlash on 10 hour trip, 6 people and my party was four of the six and you just divide the meat equally.

12 Red Snapper 10/11 lb average
6 Amberjack 40/42 lb average
12 Kings 38/40 lb average
3 Almaco Jacks 10/12 lb average
4 Grouper 18/20 lb average

Just talk to who ever is doing the booking for the boat you are looking at. Go down to the dock the day after you get there and look at options, they will find two others for you. The trip I referenced, we went with 2 guys from Kentucky who had never saltwater fished before in their lives. That was entertainment by itself, watching one hold the rod while one reeled for a 45 lb AJ.
