My dad has the smith and Wesson 40. I like it. I think in going to get it myself. Academy is having a sale I think

my 2 cents. i just purshased the S&W M&P 40 from a gun shop for $519 w/o taxes. i got the range kit (all black) gun,3 clips, holster, clip holster, clip loader, 3 grip sizes. cabela's has an exclusive (brown) gun with the same items for more $$.

The M&P .40 is a great pistol. It's probably the best of the M&P's, since .40 is the caliber for which the M&P was originally designed.
The one Acdemy usually runs on sale is the S&W Sigma (now labeled "SD40"). Lousy trigger, poor choice for SD -- not nearly as reliable as the M&P.
You usually get what you pay for.
