Not much to look out for, except the channel coming into Tchefuncte makes a 90 turn. Follow the channel markers closely or you'll hit the submerged rocks...
You'll see people running due south out of the mouth of the Tchefuncte. They're braver and/or dumber than I am. Like NorthEnd, I've always heard that there are many tree stumps and other obstructions out there.
Heading into the lake, the channel turns almost 90 degrees to the west for about a 1/4 mile or so (to the Madisonville lighthouse), and then turns 90 degrees south for about a mile. In a smaller boat, you should be fine leaving the channel at the 2nd marker from the lighthouse.

Is there a launch at Hwy 55 and Pass Manchac? I see there is one off of hwy 55 @ North pass. I guess put it at north pass ride to Pass Manchac?

Its in between North and South Pass. Great landing and you just ride down the canal past Sunbun's to South Pass.

If you get off of I-55 at the Manchac exit, I'm pretty sure there's a public launch right under the interstate at the exit. The exit ramp is between the north side of Pass Manchac and the south side of North Pass. After you launch, just follow the canal along I-55 south to Pass Manchac... turn west to Lake Maurepas, or east to Lake Ponchartrain.
I remember North Pass as having plenty of bends in it and Pass Manchac being a more direct route. North Pass joins Pass Manchac at the east end.
