CC Permit in FL

I had my CC permit in AL but when I moved to FL a few years ago I didn't go take the time to go through the process to get it here.
Last week I went through the application process here in Orlando and found out that there is an approx 5-6 month turn around on applications in Orange County!
If I remember correctly, it was like 5-6 days in AL.
How long does it take where you guys are from?

When did you get it in AL?
A few years ago it used to take about 3 weeks but early last year the times started creeping up.
Before the election it was running 2 months now 5-6 months sounds about right.

I received my CC permit in LA in October of 2011. I took the class mid-August and did my fingerprints 2 days after my class. All my paperwork was in but it still took me about 2 months to receive my permit.
With the hysteria right now, I'm not at all surprised about your situation.

Mine here in AL is a 10 minute process or at least it was in Nov when I renewed.
The wife renewed hers last thursday and said the line was backed up out the door. They were passing out paperwork in the line to speed it up.... guess they were ready to go t olunch.

That was probably about 4-5 years or so ago for me....but my dad just went through the process (never had a cc permit before). He put his application in one day and picked the permit about 2 weeks later.

To me when I was in AL (Montgomery county)....the "renewal" process could be done by mail....

Its bout 4 weeks in jefferson county right now (for new..renewing is just however long it takes in line and process)

I was born and raised in LA...hunting just about every morning of any type of hunting season down ther but never had a pistol so I didn't need a CC. Then lived in AL for about 8 years and got a few pistols so i got a CC. I have been in Orlando for 4 years now and just never looked into it until now.

We can here as well (Morgan County. But they stopped mailing the renewal forms to save money so I had to go in this last time. Supposedly they will be emailing renewal instructions from now on.

This is why fewer states respect AL permits whereas LA is recognized in almost every shall-issue state.

Yeh...I remember after we moved (we were having our mail forwarded for a while) and I got a notice that my AL CC permit was expiring And had instructions for renewal via mail. Unfortunately, we had already received our FL driver license and credentials so I didn't know how that would affect the process so I just threw it away and said "I'll just get it her in FL"..and never did.

10 min is for renewal, not a background check on first time. Best case is a week to 10 days when not backlogged and that's got nothing to do with reciprocal laws.

No but reciprocity laws are usually based on how much class time is required and how thorough it is. I remember talking to someone with an AL permit and they said it was a very short submission of paperwork. My CC class in LA was a full day event full of information. This usually leads to more states respecting your permit.
EDIT: This is referring to the original class, not the renewal process.

That may be. Personally, I think Bama's is fine. Takes 2 min to fill out. Gotta have 3 references sign it and 7.50 when you get approved. For a Constitutional Right, shouldn't even have to do that. If you can carry open, you should be able to carry concealed without special permission or having to pay a fee, imo.

Personally, I think every shall-issue state should have Constitutional Carry like Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont. But unfortunately we can't have that.

I've lived here since '94.
I live in Seminole but the CCL is the same everywhere.
The Dept. of Ag. has an office downtown that you can make an appt with and get it all taken care of quickly but the waiting list for an appt is over a month itself.

Thats not the norm here though. Every County Sheriff sets the requirements and standards for their county to issue a permit. Of the two counties I am familiar with, neither require a reference. You fill out the paperwork. They check to make sure you have no warrents, pay your money ($10 in Madison, $20 in Morgan) and your out the door with your permit.
I do agree with the poster above though. LA's requirement of classes makes it more "respected". Meaning other states will more readily accept it. I'm not sure in how many accept LA, but not AL though. would be interesting to compare.

Huh. K.ew sheriffs set the prices individual. Thought the references were across the board. I know you have to get your cc in the county you reside. Reckon I learned somethin new today.
