Need some help. I bought a boat and trailer from a fellow in Mississippi a while back. No title on boat nor trailer. but boat is registered in Mississippi. I tried to get boat registered in Louisiana but title company said that they can't do it without a title. I called Mississippi and they said there was no title. So I traced the original purchase back to Alabama where they said there was never a title issued because it not required. Anybody got any insight on what to do or point me to someone who can get this done?

If Mississippi authorized the sale and registered it, then I don’t understand why Louisiana wouldn’t accept it from that point forward. Did you get a copy of the Mississippi boat registration? I would think that’s all you would need.

Look at the requirements on the third page for out of state documents. Just get those documents and mail them in with the completed forms. No need for a title company.

When you say the title company, who do you mean? What you need is proof of ownership to get the boat registered, a title only comes into play if the boat is financed. Proof of ownership can be a bill of sale, letter from a justice of the peace, etc. The trailer is a different story and I don't think anyone knows the truth. Either way call LDWF and be prepared to deal with a whole bunch of bullshite.
