Academy has these rigs that I considered getting along with maybe some gulp alive shrimp. Will also try dead shrimp in front of a pyramid weight

It was very complex and professional, but I'd be glad to pass it on to you...........

I rigged up about like I would for catfish. I had a big (I don't remember how big) egg sinker over a swivel, with a circle hook below. My daughter was digging sand fleas and putting them in a bowl for me. Most of them were small so I used 2 or 3 at a time. I waded out about chest deep, r'ar'd back with that flimsy walmarks rod, and flung my bait as far as possible - trying to get it over the sandbar. On the occasions where my bait didn't split in half and fall around me like chum, I then I backed up to the beach so I didn't feel like a shark was about to take my legs out in the murky water (there was a tropical storm in the gulf) and waited.

I agree with all of this but I would add a sand flea rake. Google it and you'll see that they're easily made. Soft shell sand fleas are some pomano and sand trout catching machines.
