I ordered three different spines shafts.

I have field points with various weights.

Goal is to find best combo for my bow.

I plan on insert tuning first.

When testing, should I shoot them bare shaft? (I’m thinking yes?)

One problem in my head is the nock tuning. Since I will have diff weights to try per shaft plus the variable of nock tuning, it seems like almost an endless amount of possibilities to try (again in my head at least thinking about this). For example if one shaft with one point flys a certain way, should I go through the entire nock positions as well for that one field tip weight? Maybe I should nock tune them all and then just swap field tip weights?

Not sure if this makes sense, I’m trying to have a plan in place before starting. Yes I’ve been following ranch fairy and THP. Appreciate any feedback and advice.

What are your bow specs? What spine and weight tips are coming?

Nock tune first with the same size field point.. once that is done then shoot the different spines and weights in different combos to see what shoots best.. make sure your bow is tuned before you start.. I can tell you from experience my bow will shoot several weights in 300 spine and 250 spines equally well. But my bow is bareshaft tuned at 40 yards.a lot of The "ranch fairy" stuff is done on un tuned bows thats why it makes such a big difference once it gets to the point hes slinging logs real slow..

I’ve been on the same kick you’re on now for a couple weeks now. I won’t claim to be an expert by any means, but I think you’re overthinking it because you haven’t tried it out. I shot bare shaft for the first time last weekend and it’s fairly easy to tell what’s helping and what’s hurting. It does take some time but don’t get hung up on perfection.

Is there anything a novice such as myself can check to see if my bow is in tune?

Do you have access to a press? Reason I ask is because the method you’re about to go through could do more harm than good. That’s why I asked your specs.

Shoot your current arrows with a field point at 10 yards strip the fletching off of 1 and shoot it with the group.. if it hits in the same spot move to 20. And repeat. If its off Here's where the press comes in. You can either shim your cams( press the bow to do this ) or move your rest in tiny amounts to fix the flight.. for up and down just use the rest moving method. 20 yards should be far enough. It takes perfect form to shoot 30 or 40 yards bare shaft.. i usually shank a couple before getting my grip right..

He should do those adjustments with a press at closer distances then micro adjust the rest at 20/30.

ETA: but what we’re talking about will work with just about any arrow that’s close to recommended spine. Again, we need to know his specs.

Miss read it.. yes I agree if its off at 10 you probably need to shim the cams or yoke tune depending on bow..

Got you, thanks.

I don’t have a press and if I have issues you’re describing I can’t fix can go to a shop.

200, 250, 300

Realize it’s unlikely that 200 will work but want to play and see what happens.

Depends on how much weight you want to put up front. Check back when you get into it.

Well I’m getting tail right consistently on two of my current arrows (goldtip primos 400) that I unfletched. This is trying 125 - 300 grain field points. I have a QAD hunter drop away rest and don’t think I can adjust the rest horizontally, other than changing the launcher location and it’s already furthest left.

I wouldn’t read too much into shooting heavier points on a weaker spine, but also make sure you aren’t torquing the bow.

You shouldn’t run out of adjustment on your rest without flinging arrows damn near sideways. Pretty sure mine is the same rest and I’m set near the middle of the range. See if you can post pics from different angles and how it’s attached to the riser, almost sounds like it’s on the wrong side.
