I read an article awhile back that the Burmese pythons in Florida are interbreeding with African Rock pythons which are more tolerant of cold weather than Burmese pythons.The fear is the hybrids may spread across the entire southern US.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they evolve to the point they are able to tolerate relatively cold weather.
I say this because I lived in Bull Shoals Arkansas in the 80’s and there were no armadillos.20 years later our friend that lives there was complaining about armadillos digging up her yard and flower beds.
Nuisance animals seem to have an uncanny ability to evolve and expand their range.
