Gardening question:

I'm located in NOLA metro. My agapanthus plants wilted and browned a bit during this recent extended freeze. They look droopy and miserable. I suppose I should have covered them, in hindsight.

I noticed driving to work that the agapanthus all along Convention Center Boulevard have the same shabby look.

I always understood agapanthus to be a freeze-hardy plant. Does anyone have experience with agapanthus recovery subsequent to a freeze event?

Bonus question: Basically ditto regarding azaleas.

TIA

The agapanthus will be fine. Remove all freeze damage to prevent rot. Azaleas will be fine as well.

My personal experience is agapanthus almost always comes back, but to be fair hasnt been this far below freezing in a long time. I just cut them back and they usually come back. Azaleas can handle freezes pretty well, but a multi-day one this cold can be tough and Ive had a couple die before. Odds are they will all be fine.

The leaves on the azaleas will look rough but they fair pretty well. It is their winter "look".
Sometimes when we have very cold weather like we had the bark can split on azaleas near the rootball and will have dieback that expresses itself once we heat up.
