Who does good work on 4 wheelers in the Baton Rouge area?
I don't know shite about carbeurators/gumming up/taking the off, etc.

I need some help doing this.

Any suggestions or contacts?

What does it do when you turn the key on and press the button. You DID turn the key on didn't you?

No silly, "It turns over but it doesn't crank".

So now we know the battery is good. Spark plug fouled?

also, maybe someone can tell you if you can spray some ether in the carb.

shite, I'm almost willing to give up my man card over this. I have exposed my ignorance.

I put in a new battery. I also replaced a blown fuse.

A neighbor told me the carb. was gummed up. But I don't even know what that shite means. Does gasoline really 'gum' up?
I feel so stupid right now, and I can't stop!

I think you gave it up with this

But anywho, yes gasoline will "gun up" if it sets for a long time. If that was the case, it would probably fire at least. Did you check the little red kill switch? Plenty of people put their bikes in the shop because the kill switch is off and they don't check it.

Shew, don't feel stupid. Who are we to JUDGE here.

I am a TERRIBLE mechanic. The OB though, dude, we've gotten to the bottom of unsolved mysteries here; put people in remote parts of the world on fish; have helped many a man catch crabs *hehe*; there's not much that the OB cannot do. Help is on the way- check back tomorrow.

And yes, gas can gum up in a carb.

ethanol gas will...regular gas takes a while. Today I was reading about how ethanol is causing micro pitting in cylinders. The article said kiss goodbye the 200k miles on engines.

You are top shelf in my book. Any man who can laugh at himself has to be very comfortable with his manhood.

You don't seem like you're lazy so I'm going to predict you are going to get that sucka running with some help from some of our experts (who must still be out fishin tonight).

Got mad respect for ya man. Couldn't pass that opportunity up though.

If the kill switch on the handlebars isn't the prob and it still doesn't crank, there's a few more very easy things you can check before you put it in the shop.

Check the spark plug. Take it out and the end shouldn't look all burnt up n nasty and there shouldn't be chuncks of stuff on the end. If it looks bad, replace it and try again. If that isn't the problem, you can buy a can of carb and choke cleaner, squirt it into the fuel line at the little on/off valve. That'll get the crap outta the carb and probably get it runnin again. Try that stuff and see where you get.

ETA: I can pretty much promise you that it's something simple and you can fix it yourself if you're willing to spend some time figuring out how all that shite works.

I will try these things in progression on Monday.

agree totally with what the others said...yes, gasoline can "spoil"...it literally doesn't even smell like gasoline any more when it happens...

if you want to check the firing, take the spark plug out and plug the wire back onto it...let the plug rest on the metal engine and hit the starter....as the motor spins over, you should see a spark jumping across the gap....my guess is that this will not be the problem, but if it is firing, you have basically narrowed the problem to a fuel problem...

Please do and you'll find it VERY rewarding. You will be able to go to coffee and say *in deep manyly voice* I finally got ma dam bike running again but not before cleaned battry connections, charged 'em up, checked spark plugs, (more to come).
