I have my eye on one. I have a 06 Duramax. I know the LBZ is the best. How are LB7s?

Good truck except for fuel injector issues.

01 through either 03 or 04 had problems, usually with the injectors getting stuck in the open position and diluting your oil pan with diesel, plus some degree of performance loss.

GM didn't issue a recall, rather they extended the warranty to 7 yrs from the date of purchase or 100k miles, whichever comes first.

I bought 2002 at the end of 2001 and drove for 10 years. No problems at all, until year 10 with the injectors and I had 107k miles on it.

Would have been shite out of luck and paying for the whole repair myself, but the dealer went to bat for me with GM and got them to give me (for free) 8 new injectors (at $600 each), and I came out of pocket for the labor.

I took that deal and sold the truck for a nice price later on that year.

Problem is, the new injector design in the newer models won't fit on the LB7. GM can only provide or sell you brand new "old" design injectors.

Google is probably your friend on this.

ask or look at paperwork to see what injectors were installed

SAC nozzle injectors are what you want to see installed...

the original VCO nozzle injectors were the problem with the ball/seat wearing

SAC is the only way to go and they will live a way longer life.

Have an 02 lb7 with about 214k miles. Very good truck- just now starting to have some injector issues. The problem with the lb7 is the location of the injectors and the cost of replacement .

If you have mediocre moderate skills and a day to kill, it's a DIY job...labor is expensive on a paid job..and with the money you save DIY you can purchase new injector lines

or you could convert it mechanically to LBZ heads and injectors with some aftermarket harnesses and have someone tune it to make it work

I kept the LB7 heads and had them machined for screw in injector cups, which eliminates all possibility of the loctited injector cups lifting...(mostly from high boost situations) or poorly sealed after changing the injectors

I took 2 days to do it as I'm not getting any younger and taking that break helped me concentrate a little better the next morning..there is one bolt on the lower(2pc) valve cover drivers side that wears you out...even with the right tools

As mentioned I had screw in injector cups done a while ago on a race build , so that let me skip the step of resealing the injector cups...they say you don't have to reseal one(or all) if the cup(s) doesn't come out when the injector is pulled, but I personally wouldn't not reseal them...months later you may end up doing the whole job again minus parts when you find your coolant system is pressurizing.

I can't torture myself doing one these days...I can try to see if there is someone reasonable but good close to your area still doing them...

I've had an '04 for about 8 years now. It has around 225,000 on the clock. I had the new style injectors put in last year by Xtreme Duramax in Winchester Tn. They are great trucks and with the injectors just done I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I've got a buddy with an '04 as well with almost 190K on the original injectors, but he is going to have to do them soon. Even if the injectors that were installed aren't the new style they will go for a couple a hundred thousand miles anyway.
