I don’t work offshore, but do work in industry. What we are required to follow are government programs called RMP (Risk Management Plan) and PSM (Process Safety Management) and they by design make you account for the worst case scenarios. We employ people where this is their only job, they take care of the RPM/PSM programs and perform internal audits. These programs don’t stop all accidents from happening, but they do lessen the affects of the ones that do happen because you’ve at least thought of, and taken measures to react to some of the worst case scenarios. Is off shore work exempt from being in this mandated program?

Nope same goes for the offshore, shite if you work for one of the majors your day starts off with at least one safety meeting.
