But I'm coming here for some insight.

Over the past several months, I've heard a comment made repeatedly that I don't quite understand.

Several times, by different people, I've heard that BP is simply trying to save their well, and that if they really wanted to stop the spill they would simply "blow it up", meaning basically smoothering the well itself, but losing the ability to drill there in the future.

Some of them even referenced Russia doing the same thing to stop similar spills there.

Is there any truth at all to this possible course of action?

Sorry if I this is a really stupid question, I just wasn't in a situation to question the statements when I heard them.

Thanks in advance, and have mercy.

The well cannot be saved.

So yeah, the whole thing is absurd.

It is set for permanent sealing.

Best explanation to your ignorant question is below..taken from a quote from one of the many threads on this topic.

quote:

Apparantly not obvious enough as this crap comes up once a week.

Lets see, cap a well and walk away without a lease and maybe a billion or so in expenses. That is one option.

Think about that for a minute and let it sink in. Now the other option is to flood the fcking gulf for three months with oil, lose half the value of your company, rack up $100 billion in payouts/claims, and maybe bankrupt your company. All of that to save a freaking lease?

I would think an 8th grader could put the math together, but I know a good conspiracy never depends on commone sense.

Not really aimed at the OP, but just in general about the 15 times I have read this or heard it on the radio in the last month.
