Its not just deep water though they, they pulled all drilling permits as well as many construction permits. We are having to shut in many of our platforms bc they pulled the permits to the main pipe line we were flowing into. They were doing up grades on the line.

The moratorium goes puzzingly beyond deep water, subsea bop stack drilling. I work on a platform rig with a surface bop stack. We just completed running intermediate casing, preparing to plug and abandon until the moratorium is over. Makes no sense to me. Rig will be able to get workover permits during this time. Doesn't help my company though, all of our directional drilling equipment to be shipped from California back to Conroe Tx until further notice.

Surface bop stack
Drilling in this field for 17 years with no spills
or uncontrolled well incidents.
We come under the moratorium because the water depth is 1075' - Bop location same as a land rig.
Typical government uninformed knee jerk reaction from a collective group of idiots.

What constitutes as deepwater drilling? As certain distance off the coast, or is it a varying boundary based on the continental shelf?

Also, hadn't a drilling moratorium been in place along until the president lift it a month or two before the oil rig disaster? Did he simply reinstate the same moratorium that had been there all along?

According to the moratorium its anything deeper than 500ft. And no he opened up new areas for exploration not a moratorium.
