BP CEO: We won't be found grossly negligent. BP counsel: Yes we will.
During conference calls Tuesday BP executives repeatedly made it clear they don't think the company will be found grossly negligent when it comes to the events leading up to the Deepwater Horizon accident and ensuing spill.

But maybe not everyone at BP is on the same page.

According to a letter sent earlier this month by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott to BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles (see it below), BP's general counsel believes the company will be found grossly negligent.

I highly doubt any counsel would idict his client like that. And I don't think anyone has found the "gun" that would actually show gross negligence. Could be wrong though. This has been a long episode and may have missed it.

Moreover, anyone who reads the letter referenced and included in the link can plainly see that BP's GC's remark as to gross negligence in no way suggests or implies that a potential finding of gross negligence would be that of BP. Considering what you said, a more appropriate reading of the letter would suggest that the other parties involved would be grossly negligent--not BP.
