BP has built a gravel island and will be drilling down 2 miles, and then, out beneath the sea, across 6.5 miles.
Its on the north of Alaska.
they dont need off shore permits because they built an island.
Do you think MMS should permit this off shore caper?

The silliness of regulations created loopholes like this.

This shouldn't even be a question if limiting oil drilling wasn't your real goal.
The offshore moratorium implicitly says that there really isn't a concern for onshore drilling operations.
BP used technology creatively to access an offshore reserve, while retaining the "safety" of onshore drilling.
That is the extent of MMS giving a damn.
Whatever environmental damage that results from making an artificial island....well that is what happens when you make a purely political move without the advice of your own selected advisors....the unexpected consequences of your uninformed decisions bite you in the arse.

For those that don't know, onshore directional drilling is done around the world. This is not rare.

platforms in the water out there are dangerous because of all of the ice build-up
and directional drilling is the only way drilling is done now
you can have 10-12 wells drilled from one platform do many different reservoirs
