It's 2023. Find a better dealer and order the vehicle you want. I've had my last few vehicles shipped from Louisiana because that's where I've found the best Ram dealer.

WHAT'S YOUR NEGOTIATION STRATEGY/APPROACH?
MAKE YOUR BEST OFFER...

Before I engage the car salesman, I've already researched what people are actually paying for this model. I formulate what I want to pay and what I'm willing to pay at this point. Don't try to make this decision at a car dealership.

I engage the salesman and let them know I'm coming, when I'm coming, and what I'm coming for. If I'm trading, I have them look at my trade. I test drive the vehicle I want.

Next part is important. Get contact info and LEAVE. Go to lunch, grab a beer, whatever. Separate yourself from the new shiny car for a little bit. I usually pick Hooters for this. Minimize your time onsite at the dealership. The dealership is extremely well thought out and designed to extract cash from you.

After your lunch, text the salesman. Get their initial offers for your trade and their car. Decline these of course. They're going to ask you to come back. You have your own numbers from step 1. Make an offer, let them know you're serious, and will be by to sign papers if they meet it. After a couple back and forths, they'll either meet it or not. If so, you'll arrive back at the dealer, the car will be washed and you'll be in and out. If not, at least you didn't waste your whole day at the dealership.
