Figured this may be a thread to share this.
Auschwitz lowered its death toll from 4 million to 1 million.
Auschwitz.org
At first, the liberating Soviet forces estimated the total at 5 million, the commission reduced it to 4 million.
For 50 years that’s what stood and contributed to the 6 million total.
Today, there is a plaque on site estimating the total at 1 million.
Of note, Anne Frank’s stepsister has stated the photos of the Soviet liberation of Auschwitz are not real, as they decided after the fact to go back and stage photos for historical perspective.

They didn't. But by all means, keep lying.
You scumbags can try as hard as you like. You're not going to have your way.

Did you miss the link to the official Auschwitz.org site?
It’s also abundantly confirmed everywhere.

Do you have something showing that they originally said 4 million and that that was used to calculate the 6 million?

Yes, also from Auschwitz.org.
It was accepted for many years after the war that about 4 million prisoners died in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. That figure, which originated with the findings of the Soviet commission investigating Nazi crimes, was based on accounts by former prisoners, fragmentary records, and crime-scene investigation at the site.
In 1992, Dr. Franciszek Piper, director of the Historical Research Department at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, published the book How Many People Perished in Auschwitz Concentration Camp, in which he stated that at least 1.3 million people were deported to the camp and that about 200,000 of them were transferred to camps in the depths of the Third Reich, with the remaining 1.1 million or more dying in Auschwitz.
Piper’s book stirred up enormous emotions. “I was accused, above all by some former prisoners, of making estimates not supported by the documents,” Piper recalls. “However, no historian doing research on the history of the Holocaust or Auschwitz questioned them.”
Noting, of the 1.1 million not all were Jewish.
