Why start construction on Bourbon this week? by TheCaterpillar
Question about what they're doing. I was told they are repaving streets, fixing drainage paths/slopes so the sludge gets/flows into the sewer better, and adding street lights?

Is that true? Is that all they're doing?

And updating all the infrastructure that is a couple hundred years old.

With Jazz Fest coming up the next two weeks

And then it'll be Bayou Country Superfest a few weeks after that, then Essence Fest a few weeks later, then some other fest, then some other fest. There's really no time they could start the work where there's no events going on. The goal is to be finished before Mardi Gras, so with the way road construction around NO goes, they might be done by Mardi Gras 2019.

There are about 100 festivals per year in new olreans and at least one on 50 weekend per year.

Almost a half a million visitors last year with an estimated $300 million impact on local economy. Maybe I went on slow years but I didn't think king cake fest or satchmo fest drew those kinds of crowds over a two week period. The festivals all the time argument isn't a good one considering they picked the second biggest one of the year to begin

Bourbon isn't that big of a target destination with the JF crowd

True, and Bourbon is slammed year round now, there are no more weekends or months when nothing is going on.

“How are you going to handle ADA compliance and guests checking in during Jazz Fest, our most productive month of the year?” he asked.
