Hey, this thread's about Fitbits' ineffectiveness. Start your own elliptical thread.

All these nurses here use them. It's nothing more than a point of conversation for them. They don't eat any different, they don't walk any further, they are simply now paying money to track the same thing they have been doing for years.

Well I don't use one, but my boss has one and she just told me that it gives her another goal to reach (steps in a day) rather than just calories.
IDK why that matters to her, but she seems to enjoy it. And at 50+ years old, she is a hot momma.

If you do the elliptical for at high intensity, you can burn some calories. I'm not sure why I'm arguing with you if you used to be big.

I'm not saying you can't. I'm saying you can spend half as much time lifting some weights and burn more calories.
If it were presented to you in the manner of you start at point A and end a point B, choose your method to reach point B.
Method 1 takes less effort but more time.
Method 2 takes less time but more effort.
Which method would you choose?
What happens a high percentage of the time is people put a ton of effort into the elliptical and get discouraged because the results aren't showing. This is my main reason for shying people away from them. People need to see results to keep them motivated. When the results aren't there, they quit because they feel like they are wasting their time.
This is also a product of people not taking the time to educate themselves. Everyone knows eat less and move more, and you'll lose weight.
People don't know what happens to the body when doing different workouts. People don't know that you actually need carbs, especially if you are working out. People don't understand what your superfoods are. I can go on and on. I know this stuff because I took the time to lean it. I wanted to reach a goal and I knew the best way was to inform myself. Understand what I'm doing to my body and why my body responds in different ways to certain things.

That was the point of the thread. An expensive way to count your steps. I don't put a limit on the number of steps I take in a day and therefore unnecessary to count them.
It is a great thing if it is helping people be more health conscious and people are seeing results. My experience with people that I know who have them is different.
But for some reason all we want to do is discuss elliptical.

Some of those ellipticals at the gym are pointless. I always used the treadmill instead, because they were less crowded and give you a better workout.
But I do have an old elliptical my wife bought back in college. It is a beast. Has a resistance knob and a shitty readout that runs on AA batteries. 45 minutes on that and you're gassed. You have to physically keep it going. Momentum won't do it, at least when the resistance is past 1 or 2. Sure it is old and filthy from living in my basement, but it is a good alternative in the winter when I want to get a workout in if it is cold or raining.

It seems you're hating more on people who are uneducated trying to workout on ellipticals than the machines. I see idiots using ellipticals leisurely all the time but if you know what you're doing, they can provide a great warm up or high intensity cardio session.

No you don't . They are not an essential macronutrient.

Do you have data proving they're inaccurate, or do you need a dictionary?

So they don't do what they're supposed to do?

I have no idea what a fitbit is. I thought this thread was about ellipticals.

But apparently it's about their effectiveness.
Confusing thread is confusing.

What about those that do free weights and then hop on the elliptical for say 30 mins as a final
Caloric burn once they have depleted their glycogen stores by lifting weights?
Fatties?
