The problem as I see it with family and friends of mine who are on these antidepressants is that there is no real incentive to fix the problem, but there definitely is to keep you on the antidepressants and keep coming back to get more meds and counseling, for if ever you were able to manage it that would mean a loss in revenue to doctors, the pharmaceutical industry, as well as counselors/psychologists
The worst of all though is prescribing meds without combining it with counseling. That’s just drug pushing IMO, since the whole purpose of these meds are to manage things in order to work through it with counseling in order to get to the bottom of things and navigate life without them. But that rarely ever comes, and so now it’s just something people can’t live without, and have to have in order to navigate life.
And so now there’s no real incentive to fix anything since fixing it would mean a loss in revenue. Kind of like finding a cure for cancer. Why try and find a cure it when it’s so much more lucrative to treat it.

the goal should be ending the treatment with the symptoms assuaged. Just like the goal of counseling should be…to not need any more counseling LOL
