Vader’s Model Desk: Heinkel HE-111

The Heinkel He 111 is a German airliner and bomber designed by Siegfried and Walter Günter at Heinkel Flugzeugwerke in 1934. Through development, it was described as a "wolf in sheep's clothing". Due to restrictions placed on Germany after the First World War prohibiting bombers, it was presented solely as a civil airliner, although from conception the design was intended to provide the nascent Luftwaffe with a heavy bomber.
Perhaps the best-recognised German bomber of World War II due to the distinctive, extensively glazed "greenhouse" nose of the later versions, the Heinkel He 111 was the most numerous Luftwaffe bomber during the early stages of the war. It fared well until it met serious fighter opposition during the Battle of Britain, when its defensive armament was found to be inadequate.[3] As the war progressed, the He 111 was used in a wide variety of roles on every front in the European theatre. It was used as a strategic bomber during the Battle of Britain, a torpedo bomber in the Atlantic and Arctic, and a medium bomber and a transport aircraft on the Western, Eastern, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and North African Front theatres.

Nice. I built that one with the four antenna in the nose.

I just start one as soon as I put the last one on the shelf. I just picked my next build out of the stash. Think I’m going to build a Soviet JS-2 next.

It was a good plane as long as it was surrounded by Me-109s (lol)

I’ve always viewed it as a good example of Germany’s failure to truly grasp the concept of strategic bombing.

German bombers were shite. The lack of a heavy bomber hurt them.

The HE-111 was similar in performance to the B-25 and B-26. Imagine if the 8th Air Force had been sending waves of those to bomb Germany instead of B-17s and B-24s.

I like the panel line accents. All your glass is super clean. Nice build.

I like all of your models, particularly the airplane models (only because I have more of an interest in aviation than armor).

Vaders models are always perfect. I built like two that were even close to being in his league my whole life.
I don’t think you can be too critical of the luffawafe (sic). They didn’t have an unlimited budget and had some incredible planes and jets, and controlled the air until the US involvement. The Germans whole philosophy was based upon blitzkrieg the meth induced lighting war. They didn’t have the resources for long siege campaigns.

Where the hell do you put all these things?

Thanks. I use Tamiya Quick Dry Extra Thin cement on my models except clear parts. For those I use Testors Clear Parts cement. One thing I do that’s a bit odd is I rarely mask the windows. It’s too much of a pain in the arse. Instead I freehand them.

Do you also build actual R/C aircraft?

A few I keep on a shelf at my work office
The rest I keep in my model room where I both build and display my models.

No. I have a friend who use to build them until he lost some fingers to one of them. I thought about getting into it, but I would hate to work months building a plane only to crash it the first time I tried to fly it.
