Unfortunately for the skilled Italian Air Force fighter pilots, even in 1940, it was obsolete because of its weak armament. It could not compete with either the Hawker Hurricane or the Spitfire during the Battle of Britain.

Keep in mind that this aircraft and the Bf-109 Luftwaffe fighter date from almost the same time, and the Bf-109 was much more advanced.

Italy had skilled air force pilots, though. That is true.
