Towing and motorcycle storage fees after a wreck

My brother was killed in a motorcycle accident on April 24th and a tow company was called to remove the motorcycle from the ditch.
They wouldn't let me get it out of storage the following Monday because they said I didn't have the proper paperwork to be able to remove the bike from their possession.
Just received all of the paperwork from the attorney yesterday.
Tow company wants $1511 to release the bike!
WTF? How can they get away with this?
If I could've picked up the next day when I tried to then I wouldn't have to pay $24/day storage on top of all the other fees.

You need to call the owner and pander to his sense of family and loss. And come to an agreement on what's a reasonable amount to pay. And with that said I'm deeply sorry for your loss brother.

First off I'm sorry to hear about your brother.
My only question is do you want the bike? If not I'd just leave it at the tow yard and tell the owner he can have the bike

Yes, surprisingly the bike suffered very minimal damage.
Its a 2015 Harley Softail Slim FLS that my brother had custom painted and a Screaming Eagle Stage 4 Performance Kit put on it.
Lots of custom parts
Beautiful bike!
Thank you for your condolences

They honestly don't sound very compassionate. They even gave me a bunch of shite about having to come out and open the gate on a Sunday, so that I could get his house keys to attend to his dog.
Charged me $45 for that

Then I'd follow the advice from the first person.

seems kind of illegal. considering it wasnt a tow because it was parked somewhere or repossessed.
Id bring in the police report and death certificate. if they still dont cave, this is really a great time for a social media campaign or let the news know. they will eventually cave

They definitely know it was a fatality and even better. My brother used to work for the same company as a mechanic on their hydraulic equipment.
