I didn't see the SARs comment at first. But yea that could work but I don't think the OP had that idea.

One the one hand I risk having to spend a little extra time getting through the process at the airport....

As a caveat, it’s also important to know that early on, persons with Ebola may have symptoms that are nonspecific (headache, chills fever) making identification of the virus nearly impossible. It could be easily be mistaken for other illnesses including malaria, cholera or even typhoid fever. Only many days into the illness–after the onset of profuse vomiting and diarrhea–will a patient exhibit the telltale signs of Ebola with bleeding from the mouth and nose along with rectal bleeding concurrent with shock, liver and renal failure, followed by continued bleeding and fulminant cardiovascular collapse.

1. As I posted in the thread two days ago, medical mortuary professionals dealing with Ebola patients are the most at risk of being infected. A doctor dying of the disease is not any indication of some pending global epidemic.
And aircrews who travel to parts of the world with certain well known infectious diseases are, in fact, trained to look for signs for a number of them--including Ebola.
Our medical protocols are far superior to Africa's and they have yet to have a true epidemic outbreak in any urban center (and you know, it started over there). The disease doesn't spread by casual contact. You'll be fine.

Good point. Having medical professionals screening people getting off international flights at the airport would not work to stop Ebola. and who cares if people with things like malaria, cholera, or typhoid come on in? Sure, those three diseases combine to kill off about 1.5 million people worldwide every year. But that's not a big deal.

Is that sarcasm. Ebola has killed like 1600 people in almost 40 years. 1.5M a year "isn't a big deal", though.

As for the heat machine, it will catch those three diseases which is great ... But my point is that it can't catch Ebola without the symptoms showing.

I've never travelled to the US as a foreigner, but I have travelled pretty extensively in Africa. I had to have a yellow card showing that I was inoculated against certain things (malaria among them). I meant to say that I don't know what the protocols for a West African visiting here would be. I know flight crews that travel to that part of the world are trained to keep an eye out for symptons of certain diseases--Dengue fever, malaria, Ebola, and a few others (they all have similar early symptoms).

Do you believe that the government of the United States would ever admit if they couldn't handle a crisis? Think Katrina was bad? This would be EPIC!Already the BBC is reporting that the outbreak is worse than being reported and that the Sierra Leone government is trying to downplay the extent to which the country has been attacked.
