Nah, it was the location of the fuel valve that switched sources. He couldn't reach it where it was. It was an early model of that design, and the location was changed in subsequent models.
He took off without a full tank and couldn't switch to reserve where the control was located. when the engine started to die.
John Denver was an amazing artist So many great songs.
