Well mortality rate changes as more testing is done. This being a new virus, it would be extremely difficult to predict even for experts.
You: the “medical experts” are telling us 4% of people that get coronavirus will die. Nevermind they don’t have nearly enough data to properly make that claim accurately, time to shut everything down to stop the spread of this deadly virus.
Also you: the “medical experts” ended up being very wrong about the mortality rate, and we’ve ruined tens of millions of people’s lives because of it. Oh well, they were just acting on the best information they had at the time. No big deal.

Medical experts didn't say 4% of people would die, they said that the data at the time showed a 4% mortality rate, which it did... The fact that that might be coming down is great news, but they made the right call based on the data they had. Very easy for a keyboard warrior like you to criticize people who have to make actual tough decisions that could save or cost lives.

The economy will recover quickly once this is over; people can't get their lives back.

I didn’t say they claimed 4% of people, I said they claimed 4% of people that get coronavirus. And that is most certainly true.

This is where you attempt to completely ignore the fact that they were using extremely flawed data to make that claim accurately.

There is no might about it. It’s definitely coming down, and by a statistically significant margin. In fact, its looking to settle very closely to the .5% number that was extracted from the data gathered on the princess cruise ship. That data was publicly available around March 10, well before any of this started.

I’ll never understand how people think this is an acceptable justification for the actions that have been taken.

You’re right, it is easy. Especially when it’s plainly obvious these tough decisions they are making are based on faulty, at best, data.
But not quite as easy as it is for people like you to sit back and be mindless sheep that think everything the government does is correct because they tell you it is, with no ability to critically think on your own.

Right, because it’s easy to just flick a switch and turn the economy back on.
Small businesses that have been forced to close their doors forever are going to magically re-open once this is over?
People that were unable to receive treatments and have experienced worsening of chronical medical ailments that were not deemed “essential” are going to magically revert back to their health state prior to all of this?
Families that are unable to attend the funerals of loved ones are somehow going to get to have that experience when all this is over?
The increases in suicide, domestic violence, deteriorating mental health, etc. that are resulting from people losing their jobs and being confined to their homes are just getting rewound when this over?

people can't get their lives back.
You’re right. 35000+ lives could be saved every year by not allowing people to drive anymore. You’re in favor of this, correct? You’ll be turning over all your vehicles to your government overlords to play your part in saving lives, right?
