It is only going to be "dark" for a couple of minutes in the places with 100% totality. There is no way this is going to be any more of a burden on our solar grid then a cloudy day.

It's not that part that will hurt your eyes... it is the hour or so before and after with a bunch of morons staring at the sun that will cause damage.
