It's funny how each successive DSM keeps getting bigger...and bigger...and bigger...
Exactly. When I lived in Germany they would always brag about how low their alcoholism rate was while pouring their third beer at lunch. Almost that entire country would be considered degenerate alcoholics by our standards. We just have a stricter standard.

Read the DSM linked in the article. The minimum requirements for having AUD include "In the past year have you ever drank more than you intended to" and "Have you ever felt effects coming off of alcohol intoxication" so it last year you had 6 beer on the 4th of July where you were planning on 5 and woke up with a hangover, congratulations - you're an alcoholic. Even if you had nothing else to drink all year.
