My dad purchased a Sony X900F through the AAFES online last week. His TV arrived today. I went to his house to help him set the TV up tonight after work and it was damaged in shipping. There are no visible signs of damage, but the TV has no power and will not power on. The AAFES has a great return policy, but they can't accept damaged items back. Sony of course provides a 1 year warranty on the TV. Is the best and easiest option of getting a replacement going to be through Sony? My dad of course has the receipt and all necessary proof of purchase. Stupid question, I know, but is trying to exchange it out at a Best Buy possible? It's not my issue, but I am trying to help my dad get a replacement TV as soon as possible.

Thank you.

If he didn’t buy it at/from Best Buy I doubt they’d let him exchange it.

Best buy does everything via serials so no opportunity for him to exchange at best buy.

They have been a pain in the arse recently.

(bought a new samsung monitor, it arrived broken, I had the stand and everything assembled though, so just took monitor out of new box when it arrived, put broke one in second box. They wouldn't take my return since the box serial didn't match my original.)

If there is no visible damage, I would contact Sony since it is DOA.

I will let him know it will be best to go directly through Sony. He asked me about a possible Best Buy exchange, which is why I asked on here because I didn't know.

Thank you all for the help.

the dirtbag method would be to return/exchange bc its not what you wanted, no one needs to know if it worked or not

I exchange things all the time to places I didn’t buy from. Usually they only give you store credit. The best are large corporate stores like Best Buy (although dicks sporting goods and academy are my go to)

Recently I traded in a Fitbit scale from my employee health thing to Dick’s for $130 store credit and my local store doesn’t even sell the Fitbit scale. Got a brand new Calloway 2 iron apex hybrid.

Try the Best Buy in the good part of town. They are used to hearing white people bitch about stuff and probably have a more complete inventory. Places in worse neighborhoods are used to people trying to exchange shite for gift cards to sell to the pawn shops.

On top of that nicer areas employee (especially seasonally) a bunch of well to do white kids who couldn’t care less about Best Buy or the company policy. Worst case scenario you leave politely and discreetly, best case you get 80% store credit on a gift card
