If it's a REAL change, and he spends the rest of his life helping others in any way he can, he deserves our praise.

He didn't have to confess. He could have drug the family through a long, heart-breaking trial and hoped for a hung jury. And he wasn't facing the death penalty.
Instead, he confessed his sins and accepted Jesus... and that is exactly what we all should do.
