I miss my son's elementary school on Lejeune. They would all stand outside together and say the pledge allegiance before going into the school. Loved being able to take him when I could, just to enjoy the teachers, parents and students doing this all together.

Given the history of hatred and bigotry that the American flag represents, I'd be ok with doing away with it on all public premises
It's called history dumbass
If you're ashamed of the flag then move the FK out of the USA. Some of you people just don't get it

Public?
Absolutely not.
They are publicly funded so they should only fly the flags of those jurisdictions they fall under. Country, State, Parish. Not even municipality unless its conterminous like New Orleans.
Private should get to fly whatever the frick they want as long as they dont receive public funds. Dont care if they fly a Nazi flag or a Gay flag.

But never fly it higher than the American flag and never in the center, American flag goes there.
I disagree. This country is great because its ideology was founded on bottom-up governance not top-down. The US is a federation not a unitary state.
This country was founded for the States to wield more power than the Feds. We fricked that up and flipped it in the 20th century. We've lost more and more liberty every year since.
This is exactly what the Founders feared and tried to prevent when they established the United STATES.
Dont you even 10th Amendment, bro?

Actually it’s pretty much set in stone that you’re supposed to not fly anything above the country’s flag. The only time that the flag has anything flown at the same level as it is if it’s flying alongside another country’s flag.

Why wouldn't that be ok? Black Lives Matter never executed a genocide on native Americans or enslaved Africans

Depends on situation. I agree that the American flag should be flow highest but why not other flags at a lower position? What about a foreign flag if they have exchange students? Don't we do that on government buildings when foreign reps are visiting?

The student group said in a statement that "Vermont has a long history of being at the forefront of civil rights movements," and the decision to fly the flag builds on that legacy.
There are like six black people total in the entire state of Vermont

Set in stone by who? Politicians? The same politicians that veered us off the track of liberty and freedom in the first place? Our society is fluid and dynamic. You have to ask yourself whats important and what you want to symbolize and how.
I dont believe in "set in stone". Adapt or die. Having the mindset of, "Well, this is the way its always been so lets not rock the boat" is the surest way to fall behind. And to our specific example, what I propose is actually more in line with the founding principals.
Its the perversion of American history and its ideological beginnings that has been taught in the educational system for generations that has led us astray.
If you believe in a Unitary governmental structure and its tyrannical, universal, consolidation of power, then go ahead and fly the Federal flag over your State flag. If you are a proponent of the U.S. as it once was or was intended to be, somewhere on a spectrum between a Confederation to a Federal State, then it only stands to reason that you represent your family first, then your community, then your County/Parish, then your State and then finally, your Nation. In such a scenario you would fly your most localized flag on top. Prior to WWII and the fervent Nationalism that followed, this was how most Americans felt.
Our disagreement, like most disagreements these days, could simply be a matter of how we interpret the subject, not necessarily that we disagree on our general ideology. In other words, I feel that flags are cold, utilitarian symbols of governments whereas you may feel that flags are representations of the people and culture of a particular jurisdiction. If thats the case, then I would agree with you that America is a great society as a whole thats worthy of noble representation. We just disagree on how best to represent that. I dont feel a flag is a representation of that. In fact, I dont even like the current U.S. flag as a symbol even if I felt it was a representation of a society. For the U.S., in particular, I would vote for the Gadsden Flag. Ben Franklin would agree. See, An American Guesser in the Pennsylvania Journal, December 27, 1775.
Am I off the mark in my assumption?
