All kinds of drugs have been found in wastewater, presumably from people flushing old meds. My first thought was people don’t waste drugs like opioids, but most people aren’t junkies.
One problem with opioids have been the overprescribing of them. Tons of people have half bottles of pills in their medicine cabinet. One day they see a bottle that expired years prior, and they dump them in the toilet. People have become aware of their dangers in recent years, and they get rid of any unused pills as soon as they don’t need them.
