That's kind of what I thought, but it also seemed like he was being pretty indiscriminate with the chair. Seemed like he was hitting both of them with it.
EDIT: Just watched it again. I thought he hit the security guard with the chair when he threw it at first. Now I see he hit the other guy.

Yea, they did step in and try to stop the situation.
And it was hard to tell on the 2nd chair person if he was helping or not. If he/she was, props also.
