Dumpster diving on new construction sites while the structural steel is just about finished can yield good results for red iron, angle iron, pipe, tube steel, etc. Just make sure to check in with the superintendent to make sure it's okay to collect the scrap pieces and that he doesn't flip out thinking that you're taking the pieces that haven't been placed yet.
