pretty sure this is standard now but absolutely do this
I assumed it was standard because they told me in my pre-op consult that I'd get one.
But definitely ask for it if they don't mention it.
also, being stuck in that sling fricking sucks.
there is no sugarcoating how miserable it is to have 1 arm pretty much completely immobilized. it's a pain in the arse to try to get comfortable to sleep with it, etc.
but listen to your surgeon and wear it as instructed.

that and if they offer to sell you one of those little machine cooler/ice harness strap type things, BUY IT!
freaking AMAZING invention.
Insurance covers most of it. I think I paid like $150 out of pocket for it. But knowing what I know now, I would have paid full price (something like $2,500 if I remember right) if I had to.
you can get all of that on Amazon now, they even recommended it

Here. 2021. Right shoulder that had been decimated over the years and rotator not fixable. Tried twice. Decided on the reversal. So, for 3+ yrs, no real issue with shoulder popping out or dislocating.
Not sure what the hell that would be man. I am assuming you have been in discussions with your surgeon? Just over a year from surgery may indicate something needs to be re-done. Hope not.

My dad had it done a few years ago. He was stubborn and didn't do physical therapy like he was supposed to, so it took him longer to recover.

quote:Yep. There was 2 years between my first consult and surgery day for my right RC. My left was a year before they went in to shave bone. As long as you aren't an idiot, a good surgeon doing a cuff repair followed by 7 months of PT should leave you nearly free of pain (and minimal decrease in strength). My left one has been acting up again so I'm already mentally preparing for an 8 month block of time for the recovery. Frankly the only part that really stinks is not being able to sleep in bed for a month.

To a surgeon, the solution to every problem is surgery
I've had both shoulders done(rotator,) same surgeon, and he wanted to try everything he could to see if surgery could be avoided
I have a very high pain tolerance thanks to over a decade of football up to the D1 level. (Which ended when I had my first of 3 back surgeries.) I do not have a 12" area on my body without a knife mark. Except for that first back surgery I've never had any doctor go straight from initial complaint to surgery. Each time was a stepped up from the most conservative treatment.

New ortho devides to go with a reverse. Says it’s the best fix. (And it’s only $118K more than my previous normal replacement!)
