11K is more than I've ever charged for a single system. Ever. And I've been doing this in Atlanta for 20+ years. Get more quotes. But be sure your contractor is licensed and insured.

they come pre charged and sealed. I know it's not the easiest thing running copper line and insulating it but maybe the way you ran it was harder? Did you run the lined ouside the walls with conduit or thru the walls?

Yeah, I know they come precharged, and that part was easy. Running a line set to a splitter box, then branching out throughout the entire house, for 2 compressors and 7 air handers. Then you have to route drain lines for all of it.

Copper line sets don't pull line romex you know! If you only had 1 or 2 air handlers, it would be a piece of cake.

Pretty much how I feel about the ducted air handler... but that was mostly from making the plenum and it slicing my hands to shreds.

$11k is extremely high for all the things I mentioned? It seems like I listed more than just installing a single unit.

I had an a/c repair company out yesterday for a compressor issue. He evaluated my 10yr old equipment for me and offered his suggestions:
New 4 ton American Standard 16 Silver Series
Correct drain problems
New wires for condenser
New lines set
New return upstairs
Correct airflow/ rebalance ducts.
10yr. parts & labor + 1yr. maintenance

Total price was $11,261

Does this seem about right? If we decide to move forward, I'll definitely get another quote or two

Should not cost more than 7500-8500 range tops. I've been a builder since 1989...with that said, every home and situation is different so I hate to comment too much on his price without seeing your home for myself, but I can tell you it smells high.

Most system replacement with Trane / AM are normally 5500-6500 range...so it feels darn near double off the bat.

how much he is charging for the warranty? 10 year warranty for what? Is that manufacture or an extended service type warrant contract?

Is he replacing the old duct work and plenum box? that can add 1 grand or so, but dang that equipment isn't more than 3500 bucks or so and then rest is labor which will be done in one day by a professional.

make sure permits are pulled

The line-set, for example, can be flushed instead of replaced. That's $500 right there. Sounds like a commissioned salesman is trying to get your number up. Get some more quotes. The higher SEER is definitely a wise investment.

That was from Stuart Services. The way the original installer did my drain line is kind of Jerry-rigged. Not sure about plenum boxes and all. Here is the quick suggestion summary.

Guess it was a 14 not 16 seer.
