That's not too bad - about the same as my lawn tractor. Back when I was looking at them the lightest one I found was around 800. It was made by Dixon and didn't appear to be a very well made machine.
Also, I was looking at 52" and 60" cutting widths.

I bought a 42 Gravely ZTR. It's the entry model and I think I paid $2300 3 years ago. It's been great so far, but it doesn't a welded deck, so it's a huge POS. kidding- my yard is about 1 acre and I don't see where a stamped deck is going to wear out anytime soon on it. YMMV
