I'm not a dentist but TMJ had me in the fetal position years ago. It was the worst pain of my life. I've had two splints since then and they both were life changing. I've iboy had one or two episodes in the last 5 years.

Broke my jaw about I years ago. Luckily I haven't had a lot of issues. But twice it's popped up. No popping or locking issues, but have a knife pain in the TMJ area. Comes out of nowhere. Have to "rest" the jaw for a day or two and it goes away. Scary though that at any time while eating or talking that pain can just jump up.
