I think it also helps in some schools (like Princeton) if you have alumni connections.

The Asian kid Wang from the story had a perfect score on ACT and didn't get admitted.

Maybe he meant everyone gets a fare shake.

Princeton used to have a President who was awarded the Navy Cross as a WWII fighter pilot. Times have changed.
