Just asking for some prayers for a childhood friend’s family. He passed away in a tragic accident yesterday in California while training in the Marines. Not sure if it’s been posted on here yet, but if you could just keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

RIP. This one hits pretty close to home. My son was in boot with him. They flew out from New Orleans together. I met him on base at graduation. My son is at home on leave after deployment and got the news yesterday.

Was just reading about this on Marine Corp Times. Really sad for those families, and for the Corp. Seems like with the Harrier crash in Djibouti yesterday, the Marines are having trouble keeping themselves flight ready.

There was another mishap in Nevada today as well with another Jet.
I have lost many friends in aviation mishaps, both combat and training.
When people bitch about military spending, they are cutting back flight hours, which hurts our pilots and maintainers. The readiness has been dying down for a few years now.
Very sad. RIP fellas !

quote:So much of the training is done today using SIMS. There aren't enough working units of some models for teams to practice working on, so they use SIMS. It reduces effectiveness for both the airmen piloting the craft and for the maintenance teams on the ground.
