I did stick it out… as I said … retired from industry..did fine… fwiw the major I worked at with all the nonsense did not survive…. they were “merged”

You can't just look at the price of oil, you have to look at the production. You can go on SONRIS and look at historical production. If you look at the 80's, the volume of oil & gas being produced onshore, where Louisiana residents are paid royalties, was at incredibly high levels. Anyone that had land in certain areas (like the Tuscaloosa) were getting paid handsome royalties. Now production is mostly offshore, so there's no individual royalty owner getting rich.

Worked next door to the u haul or other truck rental place in Lafayette in 1985.The day school let out they had several hundred truck rented for one way out of town.
they were lined up down the streets.
Most were going to Atlanta as the oilfield was bust and Atlanta was booming with construction at that time.
