Kid could have perfect vision in the distance, but also have an accommodative dysfunction, in which case, glasses would indeed help. I'd imagine your sister is not telling you everything. She could also simply take the kid to an MD for a second opinion. Everyone knows an ophthalmologist would never prescribe a kid a pair of glasses they didn't absolutely have to have??

I'd be willing to bet your sister simply misunderstood the doctor. I know good optometrists and ophthalmologists. I'll tell you this, unless the ophthalmologist specializes in pediatrics, I'd take my kids to the optometrist all day every day because they will do focusing/near tests that most ophthalmologists don't.

I'm not talking about optometrists at America's Best or Vision 4 Less BTW

I worked with a guy who, when told of a certain malady that someone else had, he would end up at the doctor to be examined for that same malady himself. And, he may not come in the next day because he would have come down with the the malady discussed. Once a coworker told him of a backache and ,mature to form, missed 3 days of work with a backache. Mention migraine,he has it next. Mention sinus issue, he has it next. Mention flu bug, he has it next. Never failed.
