And OP, before you burn yourself, your family and the rest of Houston down, run over to your favorite big-box store and get a non-contact voltage tester like this one: BEEP means it's HOT
As a side-benefit, they're great for finding bad bulbs on strings of Christmas tree lights.

I did that to a GF with a similar reaction plus a one night cold shoulder. Did not repeat.
