fees in Louisiana? What is the total registration/ license plate cost in Louisiana?

A friend was told by a car dealer that the documentation fee would be $400. She (believe me, you don't want pics) was told this at at dealership on the West Bank in NOLA.

Don't think there is a cap. I've seen dealers try to charge close to $1k for documentation. Ridiculous . Walk out of places like that. It's the only way they'll learn

I won't accept a deal that includes a doc fee over $150 just a general rule.

Cap on doc fee is currently $200 in Louisiana.

The registration fee is separate and varies on the price of the vehicle. A 1/2 ton truck is $112 though.

Of course then there is a title fee, a notary fee, temp tag fee, maybe a convenience fee, new car gets a tire tax. If your financing a lien recording fee.

Add it all up, it’s probably over $400

La State cap for doc fees is $200. Doesn’t include Dealer Prep/Setup Fees, or any other charges for ADP/Additional Dealer Profit/Mark Up.
Some dealerships now charge “Convenience Fee”, capped @ $18.50, to sub out licensing & titling process...

Have Fun!

How often are you buying new cars? This isn’t even something on my radar to consider
