Just watched the show, "Escape From Havana". I knew nothing about this, even though my sister and her daughter escaped right under the wire in 1960. This is so unsettling. How many TD'rs knew about Operation Peter Pan.

I know that Cap'n Hook wasn't a fan.

Hook was probably the most accurate representation.....for real doh, can you give me a TL;DR to lazy to look it up version?

I went to LSU with a few Cuban Americans whose families escaped under the wire. There are a lot of them in S. LA.

I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay in 2001-2002. I remember watching Cubans try to cross the minefield or swing across the bay to try to get to America.

Did they still have Cuban civilian workers at Guantanamo in that time frame?

Just 7 or 8 that were left. They were all old as dirt. They had been grandfathered in. We had to go meet them at the Northeast Gate every morning and escort them to main side.

Over 14000 children were sent from Cuba to the US in 1960 with the help of the US government. Their parents let them go to save them from communism. These children lived in orphanages and foster homes. Many never saw their families again.
