Agree 100%.
The Tastee version is extremely close, but not quite right. I still remember the ones back in the 80’s with a single cherry on each quadrant of the cake. The sugar was also finer and had more vibrant color. They were great. A very fresh large one about 30”X18” was unbeatable.
The coffee cake style pastries they sell today isn’t a traditional king cake. But whatever. To each their own.
